<dc:content>
Way back when I managed to see Ti West’s X at the South By Southwest film festival, I had no idea I was sitting down to watch part one of a planned trilogy. But West surprised audiences that night by revealing that a prequel to X already had been filmed, and that Pearl would arrive in theaters months later. Pearl explored the origins of a mysterious character lurking in the shadows of X, and the story isn’t ending there. As we learned, the well-reviewed Pearl was laying the groundwork for the upcoming A24 movie MaXXXine, and now we have a trailer to suggest the direction in which Mia Goth’s character is heading.

Here’s the full trailer for Ti West’s captivating MaXXXine:

Ti West’s movies in this trilogy so far have paid homage to specific and beloved periods in the horror genre, and MaXXXine looks to follow a similar blueprint. With the story following Maxine Minx (Mia Goth) to Hollywood, this is giving West the opportunity to spoof the film industry, recreating gory genre cinema while also dropping Goth into what looks to be a classic 1980s slasher mystery.

Per the plot synopsis, a mysterious night stalker will be taking to the seedy streets of Hollywood to hunt starlets, but tangling with Maxine – based on that we saw in X – is likely going to be a problem for the stalker.

I was born in the 1970s, and grew up on the VHS tapes to which Ti West is paying homage in MaXXXine. I’m here to tell you, he has nailed the look and feel of the late-night Skin-emax cable movies that we’d record and rewatch religiously. It’s why this shot from the trailer, of blood spattering across a line of VHS tapes, really caught my eye.

Would you like even more reasons to be excited for MaXXXine? When describing the upcoming horror movie, director Ti West compared it to perhaps one of the scariest movies released in that decade – James Cameron’s The Terminator. And if you remember how terrifying the relentless Terminator was in the original film, before Cameron embraced the sci-fi mythology of that world, you know what to expect from this film.

But will this be the end of the road for Mia Goth and her filmmaker? Perhaps not, as West already has started to lay the groundwork for another story that’s attached to this thread. So long as these two want to keep collaborating on movies, we will turn up to see what they have in story. Look for MaXXXine when it opens in theaters on July 5.

I know we’ve got a lot of other exciting blockbusters to look forward to on the 2024 movie schedule. However, if I had to name one of them that’s burrowed itself into my mind, it’s Alien: Romulus. With director Fede Alvarez’s midquel that sits between the first two entries of the Alien movies in order, it looks like we’ve got yet another adventure where an unlucky crew’s days are numbered.

That said, there’s one thing that stuck out to me with the latest trailer shared by 20th Century Studios, and looking back at Alien: Romulus’ teaser trailer, my suspicions have been confirmed. For another entry in this canon of one of the best sci-fi movies ever, we’ve seen select glimpses of this story’s full grown Xenomorph.

I think these trailers are hiding a full look at this potential new monster on purpose, and I want to know the terrifying secret behind this creature at once.

Alien: Romulus’ Marketing Is Very Facehugger Forward

The face value surprise when it comes to what we know about Alien: Romulus is the fact that we’ve been shown more Facehuggers than I can ever recall in this series’ marketing history. Typically we’re shown vague images of bodily harm, explosions and property damage, and then eventually a Xenomorph to remind us that we’re in an Alien movie.

However, Romulus has been a shockingly Facehugger-forwarded experience so far. Before I recall the evidence presented in the past, check out the frightening new poster for the film, which fits this theme to a tee.

If you recall the teaser trailer for Alien: Romulus, there were quite a few of those little critters skittering towards potential prey. We see that again in this new look, and similar to the previous trailer, we only really see the Xenomorph adult’s face. Though there are some additional details that contribute to my theory behind this hypothetical secret I think is lurking in the shadows.

I Think Alien: Romulus Is Hiding A New Xenomorph

The fully-grown Xenomorph in Alien: Romulus isn’t totally absent from this trailer, as we do get some interesting obscuring of the creature in various scenes of revelation. But except for seeing its face screaming at a cornered Cailee Spaeny, and a shot of its hand unfolding from a presumed metamorphosis scene, we don’t see a lot of this well-known menace. This has me convinced that there’s a new Xenomorph evolution being concealed.

Through past Alien sequels, we’ve seen this genetic menace adapt to the hosts it’s taken on, like the Runner, also known as “the Dog Alien,” from Alien 3. Let’s also not forget the unholy Newborn from Alien: Resurrection, which still haunts some people’s dreams. It’s not the first time we’d be getting a new variant, and if anyone was going to give us a gnarly new Xenomorph, it’d be Fede Alvarez.

I could be totally wrong here and the marketing folks behind Alien: Romulus are just being really cool about how much they give away from the movie. If that’s the case, I’d still be impatient to see this next chapter, as it’s been way too long since the perfectly haunting ending of Alien: Covenant closed out the most recent theatrical experience of this franchise. But until I’m proven wrong, I’m going to keep an eye out for whatever this new Xenomorph has to offer.

With that in mind, Alien: Romulus isn’t in theaters until August 16th, so we’re all going to have to wait a little longer. Although now’s as good a time as any to revisit the Alien movies, as almost all of the films are available to those with a Hulu subscription. Apologies to any fellow fans of Alien: Covenant, as that seems to be the lone entry missing so far.

Naturally, analysts are circling superhero movies, a bankable brand that has suffered a few dips, but in general stands head-and-shoulders above the other genres. To that end, we’re all curious how Venom: The Last Dance will perform. The first Venom was a smash, though its sequel came back down to Earth – despite the inclusion of Venom’s most popular adversary, Carnage. This is due to be the third and final Tom Hardy / Venom movie, and the trailer so far makes it look really great:

But wait. We have to discuss all of the multiversal nonsense happening in this first trailer for Venom: The Last Dance. Because by the looks of this trailer, there are going to be some crossovers between the MCU, the Venom universe, and the existing Andrew Garfield-led Spider-Man universe. Is this teasing a possible return of Andrew Garfield to his Spider-Man role?

The tease in particular that we noticed is the presence of actor Rhys Ifans, spotted playing a guitar in a van. Look here:

Why is Rhys Ifans in Venom: The Last Dance? The last time that we saw his character in a Sony Spider-Man movie, he was only in his Lizard form as part of Spider-Man: No Way Home. But that’s mainly because Ifans wasn’t able to travel due to COVID restrictions, so he only lent his voice to the villain. Is he back playing Curt Connors in this movie? And if so, does that mean that Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) and his Symbiote are in Garfield’s Spider-world?

I ask this because there’s at least one other shot in the trailer that informs us that Venom: The Last Dance will take place in several multiverses. As you can see in the below photo, we see Ted Lasso co-star Christine Fernandes reprising his role as the bartender who served Eddie in the MCU (again, at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home). This led to a dollop of symbiote being left in the MCU, and in this shot, Chiwetel Ejiofor appears to be capturing it.

So, what do you think is happening here? Is Venom: The Last Dance actually going to take place in the MCU, and also possibly Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Unverse (where Curt Connors would have been returned to after Spider-Man: No Way Home)? Has there been a plan in place this whole time for the Sony movies, where The Vulture (Michael Keaton), Morbius (Jared Leto), Kraven the Hunter (Aaron Taylor Johnson) and more fight Garfield’s Spider-Man? Because if so, I’m all in.

Venom: The Last Dance arrives in theaters on October 24. While you wait, read up on all the announced upcoming Spider-Man movies and TV shows. <dc:content>

Believe it or not, Ocean’s Eleven co-stars George Clooney and Brad Pitt haven’t been in a film together since 2008’s Burn After Reading. Yet their pairing is still so legendary that when they were announced to be reuniting on screen in the 2024 movie Wolfs, it made news almost instantly.

So one had to wonder what was it about the movie that brought them back together? Besides, of course, George and Brad's "forever" friendship? Well, it looks like danger, punchlines, and Sinatra are all a part of it. And after seeing Apple and Sony’s first trailer for Wolfs, I can’t blame them for wanting to getting the band back together.

In fact, this looks like a darkly comic crime thriller that has me happy to see Pitt and Clooney’s shenanigans back on the big screen. With both men playing competing fixers sent to tackle the same job, the banter and the chemistry are already strong. And throwing in a little bit of Sinatra amidst the well-dressed, well-executed action is only more of a reason to have some pleasing flashbacks to the Ocean's Trilogy.

Back in 2021, that logline for writer/director Jon Watts’ first post-Spider-Man film was simple but exciting. It also probably had George Clooney fans thinking of something along the lines of Michael Clayton, while Brad Pitt loyalists may have had Killing Them Softly in mind.

(Image credit: Apple Original Films / Columbia)

The fact that Wolfs can automatically conjure the idea of both of those movies, yet provide something so uniquely fun, is pretty fulfilling. And the visuals on this night from hell are pretty fascinating as well. I honestly don’t know which moment from the trailer will get more talk: that simultaneous gun pull on the dance floor between George and Brad, or poor Austin Abrams somehow accidentally pulling off a superhero landing…in nothing but tighty whities?

However, what we see in this trailer isn’t even the beginning of how much these former Oceans crew mates believed in Wolfs. Originally produced by Apple Original Films as a streaming exclusive, Pitt and Clooney “gave money back” to make sure that their big screen reunion went theatrical.

It also helps that this Apple Original’s distribution home at Sony is a launchpad that’s experienced in this sort of release. That comes thanks to the studio partners previously releasing Ridley Scott’s Napoleon, and also having Fly Me To The Moon, formerly known as Project Artemis, on its books for theaters this summer.

Wolfs howls at the silver screen, only in theaters, starting September 20th. While Apple TV+ subscription holders will eventually be able to stream that feature, it’s unknown when that window will arrive. But if you're like me, you're probably not in a rush, as this definitely looks like a movie worth planning a night out around; if only to revel in the return of the Clooney/Pitt charm machine.

Disney has always been known for its animated blockbuster, and most recently its been making history by producing full theatrical sequels. Following the success of Frozen 2, we're going back to Motunui for Moana 2. And the first trailer teased new characters, while also bringing back favorites like Dwayne Johnson's Maui. Let's break it all down.

What we know about Moana 2 is limited, but luckily we won't have to wait long since its hitting theaters this November. The sequel's first teaser trailer can be seen above, and it looks like a gorgeous spectacle. Although I have a feeling fans will be most excited to see the return of Maui, Heihei, and Pua... although it looks like The Rock's character might be trying to eat the latter two.

The trailer opens (appropriately) on a beach, where Moana helps a hermit crab find a new shell to move into. Clearly she's still the ocean's protector and chosen one, and she'll soon find herself on a brand new adventure. Although from the looks of it she might have some new help this time around.

As this brief teaser goes on, we see Moana's family seemingly waving goodbye as she once again departs the island of Motunui. It looks like she might have a younger siblings in this movie, as they are holding a young baby in that shot.

A number of new characters are also shown on Moana's boat, but it's unclear who they might be and how they might factor into the Disney sequel. Hopefully more information is given to the fans with a full trailer. And with the movie hitting theaters this fall, the marketing campaign has only just begun.

News of Moana 2 happening was a surprise to the public, especially since it was only confirmed earlier this year. But it seems the studio pivoted away from a TV series in favor for another full theatrical sequel with the original cast like Dwayne Johnson returning.

Of course, Moana 2 isn't the only upcoming Disney movie that is set in that same franchise. Namely because a live-action version of the first Moana is being produced by the House of Mouse, with Dwayne Johnson once again playing Maui. And the wait for that version of the story won't even be long, as it's filming now and expected to hit theaters in 2026.

It should be interesting to see how Moana 2 performs at the box office, but the first movie has definitely become a beloved piece of Disney's legacy since its release. It looks like we'll have a musical version of Barbenheimer this November, as the animated sequel's biggest competition at the box office is going to be the Wicked movie.

All will be revealed when Moana 2 hits theaters on November 27th.
Summer hasn't even arrived yet, but the spooky season vibes are living and thriving thanks to anticipation for Tim Burton's return to afterlife shenanigans with the upcoming sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, which has finally dropped its first full-length trailer for horror-comedy fans around the world (and beyond). It's a step six feet up from the easter egg-filled teaser promo, and I still can't believe it's real.

Few upcoming horror movies have the bonafides of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, thanks to the original 1988 hit that turned black-and-white suits into a Halloween mainstay. And here's hoping the sequel 36 years in the making will be worth the wait. Not that B. would realize it, since time works a little differently in the afterlife. He still looks great, except for maybe when his face does that thing that makes people faint.

Even if the trailer would have been a big honking mess, I'm pretty sure fans would still line up in droves to see Michael Keaton back in black and white for a smorgas-corpse of ghoulish humor and puns better than the one I just lobbed out there. Keaton previously hyped up the movie as being "really fucking good," and I'm not gonna be the one to say he's wrong. Because the trailer looks flipping perfect.

So many callbacks to the good ol' days, from the striped sandworms of Saturn (and some sweet-looking animation) to Lydia's father Charles, whose death is what kicks off this return to glory for the ghost with the most to the familiarly tiny head of Harry the Hunter.

And check out this shot of Catherine O'Hara within the drudgery of the afterlife's waiting room, where she's sat next to a pair of....let's just call them interesting gents.

Beyond Keaton being back in all his gruff-voiced glory, the new pic brings Winona Ryder and Catherine O'Hara back as daughter Lydia and mother Delia Deetz, respectively, with Jenna Ortega joining the fray as the generational third, Astrid. Other co-stars include Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci (as Beetlejuice's sewn-up wife), Willem Dafoe and Burn Gorman. And wait a minute, who's this surprising new cast member? It's Danny DeVito, boyeeeeee!

Batman and The Penguin are back together again! Or at least Michael Keaton and DeVito are, even if they're not in the signature costumes they wore for Tim Burton's superhero sequel. This thing can't get more perfect, unless Michelle Pfeiffer is hiding somewhere.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice — which was nearly given the oddball homage title Beetlejuice 2024 A.D., which is legit name-checked on the title screen — is set to rise up into theaters on Friday, September 6, among many other big summer blockbusters hitting the 2024 movie schedule.

Halle Berry made all kinds of hearts and minds swoon on Mother’s Day thanks to her bare-butt pic being shared by her partner, but the Oscar winner is provoking some far different reactions with the first trailer for her upcoming horror movie Never Let Go, which is the latest directorial effort from The Hill Have Eyes’ Alexandre Aja. Less showing ass and more hauling ass here.

Never Let Go appears to be in the same genre milieu as A Quiet Place and Birdbox, centering on a mother and her two sons living alone and far from whatever remains of civilization, with seeming threats lurking everywhere outside the home. Such ghouls and frightshows inspire the survival tactic of tying a rope around one’s waist upon venturing outside, so that one can be pulled back to the safety of their home if something goes sideways.

Naturally, things go sideways rather quickly for the family, as the two brothers begin to question their situation, and look as if they’ll have to face repercussions for doubting the dangers surrounding them. Like the well creature seen below.

Percy Daggs IV's character looks to be walking beyond his normal route when the rope tied around him snaps back and drags him close to a well, as opposed to the mechanism within the house itself. We only catch a glimpse of the creature inside, but it's weird enough to be spooky, with a head shaped like a fat skull, and a body covered in reptilian scales.

Yikes. An image of Percy Daggs IV's character pops up as Halle Berry's matriarch is walking around outdoors, and the kid absolutely looks worse for wear. The neck is all L-shaped like Bent Neck Lady in Netflix's The Haunting of Hill House, and I'm not sure what fucked up half of his face, but I'm pretty positive it's nothing I'd like to run into while trying to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night.

Speaking of things to avoid at all costs, there's this ghoulish woman who might not be quite so frightening if she kept her mouth closed. But no, it's wide open as she crawls around, giving audiences a full view of her pitch black tongue with its forked tip. Do I desperately hope that she gets to lick someone with that nasty-ass tongue? Absolutely. As well as an ice cream cone.

Is There An M. Night Shyamalan-Esque Twist At Play?

Even though Alexandre Aja's filmography isn't one filled with projects hinging on plot twists and gamechanging reveals, there are moments within the Never Let Go trailer that make me think something fishy is happening with these characters. And I'm wondering if this movie will pull a similar move as M. Night Shyamalan's The Village by revealing that this survivalist family is living their tortured existence just outside normal civilization.

We've already talked about the brothers questioning the reality of their situation, which is informed only by Halle Berry's character talking about the world having ended, and that remaining tethered to the house is their only chance to stay alive. One line in the trailer specifically states that the mom never lied to her sons before, which to me seems like a big ol' warning sign that mom has been lying THE WHOLE TIME.

If that wasn't suspicious enough, it's not exactly clear whether or not the two boys actually see any of the ghostly entities that pop up in the trailer, or if it's just Berry's character who sees them. The part with the kid being pulled back towards the well seems to go against my theory, but that could easily be an editing maneuver.

The last bit of circumstantial evidence pointing to Halle Berry's character being solely responsible for this unfortunate lifestyle is the moment in the trailer where the mother appears to be locking one or both of her sons in a crawlspace below the floor, as well as the other threatening moves she makes with them. Using a knife to threaten a child into memorizing a survival tactic seems anti-intuitive, no?

Never Let Go will arrive in theaters on Friday, September 27, 2024, so be sure to keep your strongest rope handy. Head to our 2024 movie schedule to see what else is heading to the big screen in the near future, and keep an eye out for Halle Berry's new movie with Mark Wahlberg, The Union, when it hits Netflix in August.

Movie musicals are a tried and true genre in the film industry, with some musicals even winning Best Picture at the Oscars. The next of these projects heading to theaters is Jon M. Chu's adaptation of Wicked, which will be split into two films. A new trailer revealed Ariana Grande's take on the song "Popular," and I'm officially sold on her casting.

What we know about Wicked is fairly limited, but hardcore fans of the Broadway sho like myself know the story all too well. While the first Wicked trailer teased the movie's visuals, this new one showed off way more footage, including excerpts from songs like "Popular." And yes, Ariana Grande sounds killer as Glinda.

The first Wicked movie will follow Elphaba aka the Wicked Witch of West and Galinda aka Glinda the Good, as they meet at Shiz University. They're forced to be roommates, and go from enemies to friends. Of course, there's a larger storyline about Oz and the Wizard also at play here.

While trailers for recent musicals like Mean Girls seemingly hit that it was full of songs, that wasn't the case for this new Wicked trailer. In addition to hearing a glimpse Ariana Grande's version of "Popular", we also got to hear some of Tony winning actress Cynthia Erivo put her spin on the show's anthem "Defying Gravity." The pair of leading actresses are both outstanding vocalists, so smart money says the soundtrack is going to be incredible.

The cast of Wicked all get moments to shine in this new trailer, aside from its pair of leading ladies. Michelle Yeoh is featured heavily as Madame Morrible, while Bridgerton breakout star Jonathan Bailey's Fiyero is looking dreamy. We also got to see SNL's Bowen Yang as one of Glinda's friends at Shiz.

It should be interesting to see the way that Jon M. Chu changes up Wicked for the film adaptation. The trailer showed a flashback of a young Elphaba, which never happens in the stage musical. Although the trailer does make it seem like an overall faithful adaptation of the beloved Broadway show.

This new trailer notably only contained footage from the first Wicked movie, leaving the entirety of the second installment a mystery for moviegoing audiences. The first trailer confused some fans, as it seemed like some plot points that would occur in the second film were included in the teaser. Specifically the inclusion of The Wizard of Oz's Dorothy and her friends.

Overall the trailer for Wicked makes the movie look like a gorgeous musical spectacle. And this new footage particularly sells the acting and singing strength of Ariana Grande, who is going back to her Broadway roots.

Wicked will hit theaters on November 27th. In the meantime, check the 2024 movie release dates.

They said it couldn’t be done. For a long while, the world of author Frank Herbert’s Dune was deemed “unadaptable,” even after David Lynch’s admirable attempt in the ‘80s. But now we’re living in a world where Denis Villeneuve’s two-part breakdown of the first book is a hit, with fans, critics, and studio accountants hailing it as one of the best sci-fi movies.

However, with the arrival of the Max original series Dune: Prophecy on the 2024 TV schedule, the saga is about to undergo its first true stress test. While I’m absolutely excited to return to this universe of high stakes intrigue and political dominance over millennia, there’s some caution that accompanies my enthusiasm.

Why Dune: Prophecy Is Such An Exciting Proposition

As you can see in the first footage from Dune: Prophecy, we’re about to learn the story of how the mythical Bene Gesserit were formed. Long before the era of Rebecca Ferguson’s Lady Jessica, this prequel is set 10,000 years before the birth of her son, the man fated to rule the galaxy. And as we’ve come to learn throughout the first two Dune movies, the Harkkonens are at the center of it all.

This time Valya (Emily Watson) and Tula Harkonnen (Olivia Williams) are the players who will shape the world to come. Their efforts to form the Bene Gesserit will ultimately change the universe, and knowing what’s coming ahead will surely tinge the action and deceit we get a peek at above.

However, there’s another factor that’s going to test just how well Dune: Prophecy is received by the world. And much like its cinematic predecessor, it all lies in the series’ source material.

The Main Reason I’m Worried About Dune: Prophecy

I’m still a novice when it comes to the world of Frank Herbert’s Dune saga, but there’s one thing even I understand in this early phase: the prequels and sequels written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson are a mixed bag. Which leads to the great test of how Warner Bros’ adaptations of Dune’s universe will fare, as Prophecy takes its cues from Herbert and Anderson’s 2012 novel Sisterhood of Dune.

On the bright side, Dune writer Jon Spaights is part of the team that’s working on Dune: Prophecy’s adaptation. So there’s obviously an eye towards continuity and working this part of the legacy into the mix in a way that will compliment the films. But there’s still the question of whether or not die hard fans of Frank Herbert’s novels will take to this series in the way that the folks at Warner Bros. Discovery hope they will.

Sadly, we still do not have a release date for Dune: Prophecy, just a vague time frame of a Fall 2024 debut. However, you won’t have to wait too long for your next fix of this fabled sci-fi universe, as Dune: Part Two will be available to stream for those with a Max subscription, starting May 21st.

Not only will the new episodes include the return of actors like Meryl Streep, Da'Vine Joy Randolph and Michael Cyril Crighton, but the cast of Only Murders In The Building Season 4 also includes Eugene Levy, Eva Longoria, Zach Galifianakis, Molly Shannon, Kumail Nanjiani, Richard Kind, and Melissa McCarthy. We get our first look at all of their characters in this teaser, and frankly, I can imagine any of them being the show's latest killer.

Melissa McCarthy and Molly Shannon both look particularly devilish, respectively delivering a wink and impish smile, but let's not instantly count out Zach Galifianakis or Richard Kind. The former may not look like much of a threat in his winter jacket and beanie, but this show has shown many times that looks can be deceiving– and the latter could just be wearing that eyepatch to operate a sniper rifle a la Rebecca Ferguson in Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part 1.

It's also noteworthy that Only Murders In The Building is going to be taking at least a fraction of its story approximately 3,000 miles away from the titular edifice a.k.a. The Arconia. It's revealed in the trailer that there is a Hollywood studio interested in turning the true crime podcast into a movie, which means that the trio is going to be flying to Los Angeles for a spell. Of course, we can probably expect that the trip will end up benefiting their investigation of Sazz's murder as well.

In addition to all of the stars mentioned above, the new season is also set to include Daphne Rubin-Vega, Catherine Cohen, and Jin Ha in undisclosed roles. The 2024 TV premiere schedule has Only Murders In The Building Season 4 arriving for Hulu subscribers on August 27 (a little over a year after the debut of Season 3), and the subsequent nine episodes will debut weekly on Tuesdays. Here's hoping that the mystery lives up to the excitement of the teaser.
